VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota head softball coach
Robert Wagner is pleased to announce the addition of catcher Izzabela Goerke of Tucson, Arizona. Goerke played in 17 games and earned nine starts as a freshman at Grand Canyon University this past spring.
Â
"We are elated that Bela has chosen Coyote softball, and we are excited to welcome her into the pack," said Wagner. "She is both an outstanding student and gifted athlete. We are fortunate to have her join us."
Â
Goerke, who started playing club softball back in fourth grade, was a four-year varsity player at Sahuaro High School where she was named all-region and all-Southern Arizona several times. She hit .385 with five home runs her junior year and was batting .551 with five home runs as a senior before COVID-19 stopped play.
Â
Goerke got 27 at bats at Grand Canyon and logged five hits including a home run while driving in eight. Defensively, she threw out two of seven base stealers.
